This is a relatively new therapy available to adults and children over six years old. It uses biofeedback to improve functioning. It has been proved to improve coordination, attention, language processing and reading comprehension with benefits being long-term. It also decreases aggression and moodiness. Helps improve attention with sufferers of ADD/ADHD. Improved grades in most subjects have resulted in several experiments with IM. IM involves the use of sophisticated computer software, headphones, and hand and foot triggers. Therapy involves keeping time with a computer-generated ‘metronome’ using different actions/movements. For more information, take a look at the website: CLICK HERE

Research with this therapy is ongoing, and latest research can be found on the above website. It is also a useful evaluation tool as there is a large bank of statistics for all age-groups (six and up).

Interactive metronome therapy is given by trained personnel. A list of authorized therapists/practitioners can be found on the IM site (see above website link).

The therapy involves the use of headphones, which is connected to a computer. The participant is required to keep time with the rhythm heard through the headphones, while performing different actions. Interactive Metronome programs are tailored by a professional to suit individual needs. The standard program usually involves hour-long sessions, three to five times a week.
